Family Comes First in Money Management

Being self-sufficient and attaining wealth is not worth much, if you loose the ones you love. We believe that the family must come first. Everyone in your family should understand and aggree that the goals and the sacrifices are part of the proceess and worth the cost. This understanding creates a team spirit that can work wonders, especially in the tough times.

While the overall goals are very important, each family member has some personal goals. These goals or desires should be addressed within the overall goals to ensure that everyone remains happy. If each individual is happy then it makes it easier for the family to be strong.

Make time to have fun and relax

My wife and I have a standing date every Friday evening. We mostly go to the movies, as we are movies buffs. But, we also go out to dinner, go to a concert, or just walk on the beach to get away to enjoy the end of another week. These are great opportunities to communicate and have fun together.

Many activities do not cost much or are free. Our community has a monthly free concert where they close off part of the main street. This makes a great way to take the whole family for a night out.

Remember think outside the box to find ways to inexpensively relax and enjoy your family.

Just a few of the other things we have done:

  • Watch a play in the park
  • Friday night beer can sailboat racing
  • Watching a great sunset while sharing a nice bottle of wine
  • A cookout with the neigbors
  • A game of cards with friends
  • A ballgame with the kids
  • Taking a family weekend sailing trip
  • Boating with the family
  • Taking the family to the beach

Get envolved with your kids and enjoy, it can pay dividends too.

Get involved with your kids. The more involved you are with you children the better the relationship you will have. This means doing more than dropping them off at the door or at the playing field. It means volunteering to help whether it is to sell refreshments or learning to become a judge or referee. Over the years my wife and I were deeply involved in our kids activities and we believe this made a great difference in our relationship with them.

Each child is different as well as their needs. Sit down and discuss what their goals are and how the family can assist them. While some goals may be out of reach, in most cases good communication can help determine which things that the family can help with.

The Bottom Line

Keeping your family close in these trying times is hard enough. When you add the aggresive goals we have discussed on this site it just adds to the stress that a family will experience. By keeping the family foremost in your heart and thoughts will help balance your lives and will assist you in reaching your ultimimate goals.

Just remember when in doubt just keep telling yourself:

I can be a millionaire!
